Led by Ms. Joanne Butler, our Green school committee is constantly working towards a cleaner future for our environment! Made up of staff members, parents and second class children, the committee meets twice a month to discuss green matters in our school. After a lot hard work, we were delighted to be awarded our first Green Schools flag for recycling in Spring 2008.

These are just some of the things we do to help recycle as much as possible and cut down on waste in our school:

· Bins are labelled to encourage correct waste management
· We recycle paper/plastics/fruit peels/pencil parings in the classrooms
· We have a Spring Clean day each year in the classrooms with prizes for the cleanest rooms!!
· Our Gardener Deirdre Keogh comes in during Spring term to help us in the garden and use all our compost!
· We have a small group of children who work in the school garden at lunchtime once a week, keeping everything tidy!
· The Green Schools notice-board keeps everyone up to date on all our work and has the pictures of our current Green School Committee.
· We constantly encourage the use of recyclable materials in art
· We collect old mobile phones and send them to the Jack and Jill foundation - we recently received a brand new Promethean interactive whiteboard for collecting 500 old phones
· We recycle old clothes twice a year with Liberties Recycling Initiative
· We collect wasted ink cartridges for the Jack and Jill foundation
· We asked that all photocopying be back to back
· We asked that teachers try to use activities for indoor yard instead of paper activities
· We put a recycling tip in our school newspaper for parents

We were delighted to have the Lord Mayor of South Dublin County Council join us in May 2008 for our Flag raising ceremony in the school yard. A great day was had by all!
